Last Updated: December 10, 2025

Welcome to the website for Teri Murphy Counseling (“the Site”). By accessing or using this Site, you agree to the following Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site.

1. Informational Purposes Only

The content on this Site is for informational and educational purposes only.
It is not a substitute for medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Viewing this Site does not create a therapist–client relationship with Teri Murphy, PhD, LMFT.

2. Therapy Services (Tennessee Residents Only)

Teri Murphy Counseling provides psychotherapy exclusively to clients physically located in Tennessee at the time of service, in accordance with Tennessee licensure law.

Therapy services include:

  • Individual therapy

  • Couples/relationship therapy

  • Partners of all structures (including polyamorous and non-traditional systems)

Teletherapy Sessions:

  • Clients must be physically located in Tennessee during sessions.

  • Partners receiving relational therapy must be physically together during sessions, per practice policy grounded in relational neuroscience.

Scheduling:

  • Weekly or twice-monthly sessions, depending on clinical need and availability.

  • Available Tuesday–Thursday, 10:00 am–4:00 pm Central.

  • No evening or weekend therapy sessions.

  • No emergency or crisis services.

3. Intensives (Therapeutic Intensives + Relational Work)

Intensive sessions are available to:

  • Individuals

  • Couples and partners

  • Polyamorous or non-traditional relationship systems

Intensives may take place:

  • In person in Tennessee

  • Virtually (for individuals or couples located anywhere, as intensives are not billed as weekly psychotherapy)

Intensives may include half-day, full-day, or multi-day formats and are scheduled outside regular therapy hours.

Important:
Intensives are not crisis intervention, and do not replace ongoing weekly psychotherapy.
A therapy relationship is only established when legally permitted and explicitly agreed upon.

4. Consultation / Supervision for Therapists

Dr. Murphy provides:

  • EFT consultation (non-licensure)

  • ICEEFT-recognized EFT supervision (for certification purposes only)

Clarifications:

  • “Supervision” is the term used by ICEEFT, but it is not licensure supervision.

  • Participation in consultation does not create any form of legal supervisor–supervisee relationship for licensure.

  • Consultation may be provided to clinicians worldwide, depending on local regulations.

Rates, expectations, and requirements (including video review expectations) are outlined in the supervision policies provided to consultees.

5. No Emergency or Crisis Services

This practice does not provide crisis counseling.
If you are in crisis or need immediate support:

  • Call 911

  • Visit your nearest emergency room

  • Contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988

6. Client Responsibilities

By engaging services, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information regarding your location and needs

  • Arrive on time for scheduled sessions

  • Understand that therapy requires consistent attendance and active participation

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and communication through approved channels only (email for scheduling/administrative matters)

7. Fees, Cancellations, and Payment Policies

Payment and cancellation policies are outlined separately in the Informed Consent document, which clients must sign before beginning therapy or intensives.

This Site does not process protected health information and should not be used to transmit urgent or sensitive clinical information.

8. Jurisdiction

All therapy services are governed by the laws and ethical codes of:

  • The State of Tennessee

  • The American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT)
