Informed Consent Notice

Last Updated: December 10, 2025

Therapy services offered through this site are provided by Teri Murphy, PhD, LMFT, a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee (License #1031, issued under TN Code Annotated §63-22).

The purpose of this notice is to clarify the nature of services available through this website and the limitations of the therapist–client relationship until a formal intake is completed.

Therapy Services

  • Therapy is available only to clients physically located in Tennessee at the time services are provided, in accordance with state licensure laws.

  • All sessions occur via telehealth through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform (SimplePractice or Zoom).

  • Individuals, couples, and partners may be seen for therapy.

  • For couples/partners attending via telehealth, partners must be in the same physical location, in accordance with this practice’s clinical standards and the relational nature of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

  • Therapy is typically scheduled weekly or twice monthly at mutually agreed-upon times.

Therapy services cannot be provided via email, social media, or through this website.

Intensives

Private intensives for individuals, couples, or partners are available in person in Tennessee or virtually. Intensives are customized deep-dive therapeutic experiences and follow the same clinical and ethical standards as ongoing therapy.

Consultation & Supervision for Clinicians

EFT consultation (“supervision”) is available to therapists worldwide.
These services are:

  • Educational and consultative in nature

  • Not clinical supervision for licensure

  • Not psychotherapy

  • Designed to support clinician development in Emotionally Focused Therapy

All clinicians receiving consultation are responsible for following their own jurisdiction’s licensing laws, ethical codes, and supervision requirements.

A requirement of ongoing EFT consultation with Dr. Murphy is regular video review of clinical sessions (per ICEEFT standards). If a video is not available for a given meeting, case conceptualization or self-of-therapist work will be addressed.

Scope & Limitations

  • This practice does not provide crisis or emergency services.
If you are in crisis or need immediate support, call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • Communication through email or website forms is not encrypted; please do not send sensitive information.

  • A therapeutic relationship is not established until:

    1. You complete an intake,

    2. Sign formal consent documents, and

    3. Attend your first scheduled session.

Visiting this website or submitting an inquiry does not create a therapist–client relationship.

  • No evening or weekend therapy sessions are available.

  • Intensives may be scheduled outside standard hours as mutually arranged.
