About Dr. Teri Murphy

I’m a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (TN #1031), ICEEFT Certified Trainer, Supervisor and Therapist based in Tennessee.
My work centers on helping people understand themselves more deeply, shift long-standing emotional patterns, and build relationships that feel clear, connected, and genuine.

I approach therapy and supervision through the lens of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and over fifteen years of clinical experience. My background includes a PhD in Clinical Counseling, Education, and Supervision, specialized training in attachment science, and thousands of hours sitting with individuals, partners, and therapists doing the work that helps people feel safe enough to change.

What I offer is grounded, practical, and emotionally attuned.
It’s not about fixing or performing. It’s about making space to be shaped, supported, and strengthened by the work itself.

How I Work

My approach integrates:

  • Attachment science – understanding patterns that shape how we protect, respond, and relate.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – a research-backed model that supports emotional clarity, nervous system regulation, and lasting relational change.

  • Somatic awareness – helping you tune into what your body knows, not just what your mind analyzes.

  • Identity and meaning-making – exploring shame, self-worth, and the stories we carry.

  • A steady, collaborative presence – structure when you need it, spaciousness when it supports deeper work.

I believe all human beings are worthy of love and belonging and that you are the expert of your story.

Who I Work With

I work with:

  • Adults seeking clarity, healing, or a renewed sense of self

  • Partners wanting to communicate more effectively and repair disconnection

  • Therapists looking for consultation or EFT supervision

  • Clients interested in intensive therapy as an alternative to weekly sessions

My practice is inclusive of all genders, sexual orientations, relationship structures, and identities.
I welcome individuals and partners navigating complexity, transitions, identity questions, or long-standing emotional patterns.

Professional Background

  • PhD in Clinical Counseling, Education & Supervision

  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (TN #1031)

  • ICEEFT Certified Trainer, Supervisor & Therapist

  • Director of EFT Tennessee, offering core and advanced EFT trainings for therapists

  • Creator of emerging frameworks integrating attachment, identity, and emotional patterning (including The Stack™, currently in development)

Before full-time clinical practice and teaching, I worked in higher education, research, and academic leadership. I continue to write, teach, and train nationally and internationally.

Before becoming a therapist, I served on Active Duty in the United States Air Force as a propulsion analyst for the Space and Missile Systems Center.
The precision, systems-thinking, and discipline from that work continue to shape the way I understand patterns, structure therapeutic processes, and support therapists with clarity and grounded support.

Why This Work Matters to Me

People don’t need to be “fixed.”
They need understanding, support, and a safe place to unfold.

I’ve spent the last decade walking with clients and therapists through deep emotional work—grief, trauma, identity shifts, relational ruptures, and the quiet suffering that happens when we don’t feel known.

What I’ve learned is this:

When people feel understood, they change.
When they feel supported, they grow.
And when they understand their own inner patterns, they finally feel free.

This work is an honor.
And I take it seriously—with clarity, care, ethics, and respect for each person’s humanity.

Everyone makes sense in the context of their story.
