About Me

Teri Murphy Headshot HighResMy passion is helping people get un-stuck. I am honored to working with couples, families, and individuals, and I believe wholeheartedly in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  I am a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (License #1031) in Tennessee and am an EFT Certified Therapist and Supervisor Candidate through the International Centre for Excellence in EFT (ICEEFT).

I use EFT because it gets to the heart of couples’ issues – creating a lasting bond and healing attachment injuries.  EFT is strongly backed by research and is effective for couples and families. According to EFT outcome studies, 90% of couples report significant improvements in their relationships and 70-76% report resolution of their relational distress.

Upon receiving my undergraduate degree in chemistry, I served for four years as an active duty Air Force officer in satellite and rocket systems development at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.  While in LA, I graduated from Webster University with my MBA and taught on base as a contractor. I loved my students and was fascinated by the stories of the people in my classroom.  Over the next few years, I realized my calling was to therapy.

I received my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University and am currently pursuing my PhD in Clinical Counseling: Education and Supervision there.  In addition to my certification in EFT, I completed the Basic Training in EMDR in 2015 and am a member of EMDRIA.  I’m a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (ACES), the American Counseling Association (ACA), as well as ICEEFT.

While I’m away from work, I enjoy reading, yoga, relaxing outdoors, and spending time with my husband and two children.
